Marielys Burgos Meléndez

Artistic researcher working primarily through instant devising, performance ritual, creative writing, and video art. She holds a B.A., double major in Psychology & Sociology from Universidad de Puerto Rico (2008) and worked as a 'Domestic Violence' Case Manager & Legal Intercessor. In 2014, she obtained an M.A. in Dance Studies focusing on interdisciplinary research methodologies, dance history, and improvisation (SUNY, The College at Brockport). 

Since 2014, Marielys has been inquiring about the conditions/ circumstances/ conceptions of mobility and migration by exploring diverse experiences, narratives, and poetics; "movement", "ongoingness", and "dislocation" stand as ways/ strategies of knowing when roaming/ oscillation is a chosen lifestyle. Her artistic endeavors have been shared in diverse spaces/ formats in the Dominican Republic, Greece, Mexico, New York, California, Scotland, Belgium, Puerto Rico, and Cyprus. Marielys moves constantly among Puerto Rico, Greece, and New York City. Currently located in Brooklyn, she has collaborated with artists like Pramila Vasudevan (Guggenheim Fellow 2017), iele paloumpis, Jill Sigman, and Antonio Ramos & The Gang Bangers. Marielys' most recent projects include Errática, a self-published book in collaboration with Yarisa Colón (Taller Asiray), "the sky beneath my feet", a dance installation memoir exploring her genealogy of migration, and the co-curation of ComeUnion, the 2019 Fall Festival of Movement Research.
